Choosing your bedding
Sateen or percale?
Sateen is woven so that more thread lies on the surface, which gives it a smooth, lightly lustrous face and a fluid drape. Percale is a tight plain weave with a matte finish and a crisp, cool hand that softens with every wash. Both are 100% cotton at a 300 thread count, so the choice is about feel rather than quality.

A fitted sheet is named by the size of your mattress, not by the cover. 90×200 suits a single bed, 140×200 a small double, 160×200 a double and 180×200 a king. If you are unsure, measure the width of your mattress.

Wash your fitted sheet at 40 to 60 degrees with a mild detergent and no bleach. Sateen is best washed inside out at 40 degrees, which keeps both the sheen and the colour.
